Welcome to our Anniversary Interview with Toomas Puusepp. He works as a Base Maintenance Project Manager in our Tallinn facility and has recently completed his 10th year at Magnetic MRO!
On behalf of celebrating his past years amongst us, Nilay Rammul (a.k.a. our MarComm Speacialist) asked a few moments of Toomas to share his experiences with us.
Nilay Rammul: Hello Toomas! Thanks for accepting this interview. Can you tell me for how many years you have been working at Magnetic MRO (including AME years - before rebranding)?
Toomas Puusepp: I have been here since August 2008. Exactly 10 years!
NR: Amazing! Can you please name the departments and job titles you've worked under so far at MMRO?
TP: From 2008 till 2012 I worked as a basic aircraft mechanic and sheet metal worker. Those were the years I truly fused into the industry and learned so many new things. In 2012, I passed B1 type training and became an aircraft technician. Shortly after I got promoted to the team leader position in Base Maintenance. Since 2018 January, I officially work as a Project Manager for heavy maintenance checks.
NR: How did you get involved in aviation in the first place?
TP: I was always interested in the whole aviation concept! That’s why after high school, I went to Estonian Aviation Academy and studied Engineering. During my education, I worked as a trainee at Magnetic MRO (It was Air Maintenance Estonia by then), and I liked what I saw and did there. After graduation, I attended a career fair, called Teeviit, and applied for the basic aircraft mechanic position at Magnetic MRO, which I came across at the fair. They hired me right away because this is how Magnetic MRO functions. They invest in people, whom they see potential and dedication.
NR: Sounds like you’ve come along a long way since then. Tell us more about your current job? What are you doing exactly at Magnetic MRO? What are your daily/weekly tasks?
TP: I have been working as a Base Maintenance Project Manager only for 6 months, therefore, I am still learning every day. However, my previous experiences (and my great teammates) are making the learning process pretty fast and convenient. What I do as a Project Manager is mainly to prepare the whole team for the upcoming projects, set things in motion, analyze the work scope and manage the whole process, plan the deadlines and make sure everything runs accordingly to the plan, handle the materials and parts that need to be ordered, navigate with customer throughout the entire C-Check and of course communicate with all relevant units and subordinates for a complete and meticulous service delivery. It is crazy but so am I. So, it’s all good.
NR: Crazy or not, it surely sounds exciting and challenging. Among all these works, can you remember your best memory at Magnetic MRO? Do you mind sharing it with us?
TP: All my memories have been great! But here is a really good one. One time we discovered that a cat was hiding inside Yakutia Airlines’ cargo compartment. Poor thing was so scared and confused. I remember all mechanics were taking care of her. The cat got domesticated after few days and last time I checked she was quite happy and healthy.
NR: How would you define all these years spent in Magnetic MRO?
TP: Productive! Always productive!
NR: Would you say working at Magnetic MRO has changed your life in any way?
TP: Yes, life is good! I met my wife in this company, who has given birth to my son only 3,5 months ago. So, it surely has changed my life in a much better way.
NR: Wow, that’s quite a story there. A real Magnetic MRO family, so to say :) Congratulations to both of you!
